She became Vice Principal at the age of 28 and went on to serve as Principal for 24 years, spending three decades working at the highest level of school leadership and management.
Working across schools in Donacloney, Belfast, Bangor and Clough, teaching and leading in schools of varying sizes and contexts, both rural and urban, has provided her with a deep understanding of the diverse needs of pupils, teachers, and school communities across Northern Ireland.

Rhonda said: "I am truly honoured to step into the role of Chief Operating Officer at Burns Skills School. Having watched this organization grow from the ground up—built with dedication and vision by two exceptionally talented individuals—I have long admired their work. Their passion for children's education is inspiring, and when the opportunity arose to contribute to this mission, the decision was an easy one."
"Throughout my teaching career, I have been guided by the words of essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson: 'Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail'. This philosophy has shaped my approach as an educator—encouraging me to be courageous, embrace innovation, and always make decisions with the best interests of children at heart. I am excited to bring this mindset to my work with Burns Skills School, where, together, we will continue to lead, innovate, and make a lasting impact in education. I look forward to building on the incredible foundation already in place and to helping Burns Skills School reach even greater heights."
