Our client is a leading specialist distributor of photographic, imaging, and content-creation products, supplying retailers and trade partners throughout the UK and Ireland. Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and organised Accounts Assistant to join their finance team at their headquarters in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. This position would suit an individual who has completed AAT Level 1 and is looking to develop a long-term career within accounts and finance in a fast-paced commercial environment.
The Role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will provide day-to-day support across the finance function, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of financial information whilst assisting with the smooth running of the accounts department.
Key Responsibilities
- Processing high volumes of supplier invoices accurately and efficiently.
- Matching purchase invoices against purchase orders and goods received documentation.
- Assisting with the maintenance of the purchase ledger and sales ledger.
- Processing customer payments and allocating receipts to customer accounts.
- Reconciling supplier statements and resolving invoice discrepancies.
- Assisting with customer invoicing and credit notes.
- Performing daily bank reconciliations.
- Supporting credit control activities and following up overdue accounts where required.
- Assisting with stock reconciliations and investigating variances between stock and financial records.
- Maintaining accurate records of supplier rebates, promotional support and supplier contributions where applicable.
- Assisting with month end reporting and account reconciliations.
- Supporting VAT preparation and other statutory reporting requirements.
- Responding to finance related queries from suppliers, customers and internal departments.
- Filing and maintaining accurate financial documentation and records.
- Providing general administrative support to the wider finance team.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- AAT Level 1 qualified or currently studying towards AAT Level 2.
- Good numerical ability and attention to detail.
- Competent user of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and a professional telephone manner.
- Ability to work accurately within a busy and fast-moving environment.
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop.
Desirable
- Previous experience within an accounts, finance or administration role.
- Experience of using accounting software such as Sage 50, Xero, SAP or Microsoft Business Central.
- Experience within a distribution, wholesale or stock-based business.
- Understanding of stock accounting principles and purchase ledger processes.
