We’re a design-led architectural practice working exclusively on domestic extensions and renovation projects — and we’re looking for an experienced technical professional to support our team when real-world construction questions arise.

Our designers are strong, but many lack deep on-site experience. When something unexpected happens on site, or when Building Control asks for very specific construction detail, we need someone we can turn to for clear, practical, compliant advice.

This role is 100% remote, freelance, and paid hourly. No site visits. No production drawing workload. Just problem-solving and guidance where it matters.

What you’ll be doing

  • You’ll act as a technical sounding board for our team, helping resolve issues such as:
    • Unexpected ground conditions or existing services uncovered on site
    • Elements that have been built incorrectly and need a practical fix
    • Contractor questions around buildability
    • Building Control requests for detailed section drawings and junctions
    • General “how should this actually be built?” queries
  • Support will typically involve reviewing sketches, drawings, photos, or short descriptions and advising on buildable, regulation-compliant solutions.
  • Most communication will be via Slack, with the occasional short call if helpful.

Project scope

  • This role is domestic only, including:
    • House extensions
    • Renovations and refurbishments
    • Loft conversions
    • Small residential alterations
    • No commercial projects.

How the role works

  • Freelance / consultant basis
  • Paid hourly
  • Ad-hoc support as needed
  • Fully remote
  • Long-term relationship preferred

Who this suits

This role is ideal for someone who has spent years dealing with real buildings, real sites, and real compliance issues, such as:

  • Former Building Control Officer or Approved Inspector
  • Senior Architectural Technologist or Technical Architect
  • Clerk of Works or site-focused technical consultant
  • Former Technical Director / Technical Lead

You don’t need to be producing CAD drawings — you do need to be confident explaining how things should be built and why.

Why people like this role

  • No site travel
  • No deadlines or project management
  • No drawing production
  • Flexible involvement
  • High-impact advice using your experience
