Be the difference at the most important moment in a child’s journey. At Ark Evelyn Grace Academy, we know that the transition to secondary school can shape a young person’s future. We are looking for a passionate and driven Head of Year 7 and Transition to lead this pivotal stage—ensuring every student feels confident, supported, and ready to thrive from day one.
As our Head of Year 7 and Transition, you will play a vital role in creating a strong foundation—guiding students and families through this exciting milestone and empowering every young person to succeed. This is a highly rewarding pastoral role where you will lead the transition of our new Year 7 cohort, ensuring every student is set up for success from the very start of their secondary journey. You will work closely with families, primary schools, and staff to create a nurturing, structured, and ambitious environment where all students—particularly those with SEND or additional needs—can flourish. As a visible and inspiring presence in the school, you will champion high standards of behaviour, attendance, and achievement while supporting students to overcome barriers and develop into confident, successful young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate a high-quality Year 6–7 transition programme, including outreach, induction, and Summer School
- Develop and embed a positive, inclusive Year 7 culture with high expectations of behaviour, attendance, and conduct
- Monitor and respond to attendance, punctuality, behaviour, and progress data, implementing targeted interventions
- Provide tailored support for students, including those with SEND and additional needs, through initiatives such as Pupil Passports
- Build strong relationships with parents/carers and external agencies to support student wellbeing and achievement
- Lead on pastoral care and student welfare, ensuring every young person feels safe, supported, and motivated
- Contribute to assemblies, enrichment opportunities, and wider school life
Benefits
- Salary 2.5% higher than main pay scale
- Twice as many training days as standard
- Generous pension scheme
- Access to Ark rewards – a scheme offering savings from over 3,000 major retailers
- Interest‑free loans – up to £5,000 available for season ticket or to buy a bicycle
- Gym discounts – offering up to 40%
- Access to Employee Assistance Programme – providing free, confidential counselling, legal advice and a range of different support
Diversity and Inclusion
We aim to build a diverse and inclusive organisation where everyone – staff and students – can do their best work and achieve their full potential. We want to reflect and represent diverse perspectives across our organisation because we know that doing so will make us stronger and more effective.
