Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the architecture of high‑performance, highly available MySQL platforms supporting production game workloads.
  • Build database solutions that support long‑term data growth, fault tolerance, and operational simplicity.
  • Contribute to technology roadmap planning, capacity forecasting, and architectural decision‑making.
  • Proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve database performance bottlenecks across schema build, queries, indexing, and configuration.
  • Define and help meet database reliability targets (SLOs) in collaboration with the Platform Reliability Team.
  • Improve and maintain automation for database provisioning, backup and recovery, replication, failover, and disaster recovery.
  • Improve observability through monitoring, alerting, and tooling.
  • Define and enforce database security standards, access controls, and auditing.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Partner closely with Architecture, Engineering, and Data Science teams to deliver secure, scalable, and performant database builds.
  • Provide hands‑on support through pairing, build reviews, and technical consultation.
  • Build and maintain high‑quality documentation covering architecture, operations, and guidelines.
  • Mentor engineers and DBAs, raising the overall database maturity of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Significant production experience with MySQL in critical environments.
  • Deep expertise in MySQL internals, replication and backup/recovery strategies, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Strong Linux administration skills.
  • Proven experience operating databases with high efficiency and low latency.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast‑paced, distributed environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Experience with MySQL clustering technologies and monitoring solutions is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of PostgreSQL, Redis, and MongoDB.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, especially GCP (Cloud SQL) and AWS, is desirable.
  • Experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code and automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Helm.
