What You'll Do
- Own and evolve the architecture of high-performance, highly available MySQL platforms supporting production game workloads.
- Build database solutions that support long-term data growth, fault tolerance, and operational simplicity.
- Contribute to technology roadmap planning, capacity forecasting, and architectural decision-making.
- Proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve database performance bottlenecks across schema build, queries, indexing, and configuration.
- Define and help meet database reliability targets (SLOs) in collaboration with the Platform Reliability Team.
- Improve and maintain automation for database provisioning, backup and recovery, replication, failover, and disaster recovery.
- Improve observability through monitoring, alerting, and tooling.
- Define and enforce database security standards, access controls, and auditing.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Partner closely with Architecture, Engineering, and Data Science teams to deliver secure, scalable, and performant database builds.
- Provide hands‑on support through pairing, build reviews, and technical consultation.
- Build and maintain high‑quality documentation covering architecture, operations, and guidelines.
- Mentor engineers and DBAs, raising the overall database maturity of the organization.
What We're Looking For
- Significant production experience with MySQL in critical environments.
- Deep expertise in MySQL internals, replication and backup/recovery strategies, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Strong Linux administration skills.
- Proven experience operating databases with high efficiency and low latency.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast‑paced, distributed environment.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Experience with MySQL clustering technologies and monitoring solutions is a plus.
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL, Redis, and MongoDB.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, especially GCP (Cloud SQL) and AWS, is desirable.
- Experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code and automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Helm.
