Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA (NMCP) is currently seeking a full-time Registered Nurse - Same Day Surgical Unit in support of the Ambulatory Surgical Center at NMCP.

Work Schedule:
Three Shifts: Monday-Friday: 8:00 AM-4:30 PM; 10:00 AM-6:30 PM; and 12:00 PM-8:30 PM, not to exceed 80 hours every two-week period. Includes a 30 Minute Lunch Break.
Job Duties:
- Provide highly specialized and comprehensive nursing care to a wide variety of patients in the preoperative phase, the immediate post anesthesia period, through the extended post anesthesia period, to discharge.
- Provide comprehensive preoperative education, initiate nursing database, identify problems, initiate appropriate consults, and coordinate preoperative arrival time using the operative schedule.
- Provide Phase II care as a recovery nurse for surgical procedures performed in the Directorate of Surgical Services (DSS).
- Provide nursing care for conscious sedation patients of all ages with medical and/or surgical problems as applicable in the ambulatory setting.
- If required by NMCP, be trained and become certified in the administration of moderate intravenous (IV) conscious sedation via the NMCP moderate intravenous sedation class.
- Demonstrate continual assessment of patients for potential of life-threatening crisis during these procedures.
- Attend and/or comply with all annual training classes required by the Command, including but not limited to online annual training provided by the MTF: disaster training, infection control, Sexual Harassment, Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire and Safety, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE), and all other required training.
- Operate and manipulate automated systems such as Essentris, MHS Genesis and Clinical Information System (CIS), participate in clinical staff Performance Improvement (PI) and Risk Management (RM) functions, as prescribed by the Commander.
- Maintain DOD email account as directed. The HCW shall be responsive to all email and voicemail communications.
Requirements:
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
- Education: Graduate from an accredited college or university (NLNAC, CCNE, ACEN, or state accredited professional nursing program).
- Licensure: Current, Full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any of the 50 States, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
- Experience: Minimum one (1) year of experience as an RN working in an ambulatory surgery center/SDSU, performing phase II care to patients within the last two (2) years.
- Certification: AHA or ARC: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Security: Must be able to obtain and maintain a government background check and security clearance.
