A well-established, family-run building contractor based in West Sussex is looking to recruit an Assistant Estimator to join their growing team. With a heritage spanning over 100 years, the business has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality construction projects across Sussex, including new builds, refurbishments, heritage works and local authority schemes.

This is a rare opportunity for an Assistant Estimator looking to build a long-term career in estimating, with structured mentorship and a clearly defined progression path.

The Role

As an Assistant Estimator, you will support the estimating team across a wide range of construction projects, gaining hands-on experience in:

  • Assisting with preparation of cost estimates and tender submissions
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and project documents
  • Liaising with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing
  • Supporting take-offs and measurement exercises
  • Helping to build accurate and competitive tenders
  • Working closely with experienced estimators and the wider project team

You will gain exposure to a diverse project portfolio including heritage restorations, local authority works, and high-end residential builds.

Training & Development

This role is designed as a long-term career pathway:

  • Direct mentorship from two experienced Senior Estimators
  • Structured, hands-on training over a 3-5 year period
  • Full exposure to the estimating function from enquiry to tender submission
  • Clear progression route to leading the estimating department within 5 years

About You

Interest in construction, estimating, or quantity surveying

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Confident communicator with a proactive attitude
  • Ideally some construction knowledge or relevant qualification (not essential)

This role would suit someone early in their construction career looking for structured development and a long-term secure position. Candidates could come from an Estimating, Surveying, Buying or even Construction Management background.
