I'm delighted to be working in partnership with a multi-strategy alternative asset manager looking to appoint a senior valuations and/or technically minded funds finance professional to lead a well-established team responsible for the valuation and financial control of a significant private markets investment portfolio.
This is a senior leadership position combining private asset valuations, investment financial control, governance and people management, with considerable interaction across investment, finance, risk and operations teams.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the valuation and control function covering a broad portfolio of private market investments
- Take ownership of the quarterly valuation process, ensuring valuations are robust, appropriately challenged and well governed
- Oversee valuations undertaken internally alongside the review and challenge of work performed by external valuation advisers
- Provide subject matter expertise on the valuation of private equity, private credit and other illiquid investments
- Lead periodic deep dives into individual asset valuations and more complex investments
- Maintain and develop valuation policies, methodologies and governance frameworks
- Provide valuation and financial control input into new investments, products and structures
- Work closely with investment, finance, risk and operations teams to ensure appropriate accounting and control frameworks are in place
- Oversee relationships with external valuation advisers, auditors and other third parties
- Continue to enhance internal valuation models, systems, processes and controls
- Provide senior-level reporting and insight on valuation and investment control matters
- Lead, develop and mentor a team of valuation and investment control professionals
- Play a broader role within the senior Finance leadership team, contributing to strategy, transformation and continuous improvement
- Day to day management for a team of valuations and funds finance professionals (all qualified accountants)
Your background:
- ACA, CA ACCA, CIMA, CFA or another relevant professional qualification with significant years PQE spent in larger and/or complex fund managers
- A background spent in either fund accounting / fund finance with significant exposure to valuations OR a career spent mostly in valuations with a desire to broaden your skillset into more mainstream financial control and advisory
- Strong understanding of investment appraisal and valuation methodologies
- Experience reviewing and challenging complex or illiquid asset valuations
- Good understanding of financial control and accounting frameworks within private markets
- High level of emotional intelligent and proven capabilities leading and developing a team
- Strong financial modelling and analytical skills
- Ability to operate credibly with senior stakeholders and provide constructive challenge
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across investment, finance, risk and operational functions
