Job title: Non-Destructive Testing Trainer

Key relationships: Internal: Other Trainers, Examination staff & Level 3 Services Consultants, Customer Services, Marketing, Learning materials; External: Students and Clients
Description of duties
Overall purpose
To provide a high standard of training in various Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) disciplines in which the post holder is certified.
Key performance areas
- Deliver training at a high standard to students in NDT as required.
- Develop programmes of learning activities including planning, preparing, delivering and researching training sessions.
- Prepare and maintain learning materials.
- Check and assess students’ work and give constructive feedback on their performance. Invigilate examinations and ensure awarding body (i.e. BINDT) standards are met.
- Maintain accurate records of training for all students as required. Provide feedback on all training activities.
- Liaise with other specialists and NDT professionals both internally and externally in order to ensure contemporary thinking and practice is brought into training in the methods and sectors taught.
- “Master” examination specimens as required.
- Attend relevant training courses as required to enhance qualifications and continuously improve training abilities.
- Ensure adequate self-development and training/cross training is undertaken to fulfil the role and responsibilities, share knowledge with team members and contribute to team development.
- Ensure that all personal certifications are kept up to date. If certified at Level 3, to mark examinations as required.
Key attributes / Person specification
- Certified in the methods in which they are required to teach and at least 5 years’ industrial experience as an NDT technician.
- The candidate will hold, as a minimum, PCN Level 2 certifications in a minimum of 2 methods.
- Level 2 certification in a volumetric method would be advantageous.
- Previous experience in a training environment is desirable, but not essential, as training will be given.

- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to teach from the front of a classroom.
- The aptitude to gain a deep theoretical understanding of NDT methods and the confidence to be able to respond to challenging student questions.
- Good written skills and the desire to continually improve course notes and materials. Willing to train and upgrade certification to PCN Level 3.
- Willing to train and learn new methods in NDT, as required.
- Willing to train and become certified in other certification schemes, as required by the company (i.e. ASNT).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Ability to work well and communicate with a wide variety of people at all levels. Ability to work in a team in a collegiate way.
- Good organisational skills.
