We have a vacancy for a Ferry Technical Superintendent to join our Ports and Ferries team.

You will assist the Marine Operations Manager to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of the 4 ferry services run by Argyll and Bute Council. Key duties to include:
- Day to day management of ferry service delivery including conducting on the spot\’ audits, internal audits of the Safety Management System, arranging the provision of stores, spares and oils and monitoring contract delivery.
- Ensure all ferry vessels are compliant and certificated for public service, including arranging for the annual inspections and maintenance programme.
- Ensure ferry staffing levels are appropriate at all times and that capability/skills levels are maintained and developed.
- Assist with the supervision of refits of the council ferries.
- Liaison with MCA for audits, refits and statutory exercises as required.
- Participate in the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) rota out with normal hours.
You will be highly motivated, able to work as an effective team member but also use your own initiative. Creating a positive working relationship with external organisations/stakeholders will be an important part of your role, you will be required to attend consultation events/liaise with service users/communities and Council officers, some of which may be outside normal working hours. You will be able to plan, organise and prioritise a varied workload with a proactive mindset. Working from home is an option but travel between our ferry locations in Oban and Islay is an essential part of the role, at interview you will be required to demonstrate your understanding of this and how this will be achieved.
