Argus is seeking a Reporter to join Crude desk in London which assesses prices for the North Sea, west African, Russia Caspian and Mediterranean markets. You will cover the crude oil market through daily price assessments, writing interesting, analytical market commentaries, news coverage and in‑depth analysis to appear online and in the daily Argus European Products report. A key responsibility will be maintaining and expanding the contact base and forging strong relationships with the industry. You will work in tandem with other reporters and editors who will provide training and support to develop in‑depth knowledge of the markets.
What you will be doing:
- Monitor and assess markets to produce daily price assessments, market commentaries, news, analysis and reports.
- Curate data and maintain and analyse existing data series to inform coverage and develop graphs and charts within Excel to illustrate trends and analysis.
- Develop an understanding of relevant commodity markets, working with other Argus teams to produce joint content.
- Regular meetings and daily communication with key members of the industry, including traders, brokers, and business leaders to build relationships and gather news.
- Contribute copy to relevant daily and periodical publications and the online news service, and contribute to special content and presentations as required.
- Work with other departments to help promote the use of Argus price assessments.
- Attend meetings, conferences and industry events to build contacts, report on news and represent Argus in the industry.
Skills And Experience:
- A graduate with a strong degree.
- Proven ability to develop, source and write industry‑relevant news to deadline.
- Knowledge of the commodity and/or freight sectors useful, but not essential.
- Excellent writing, grammar and numeracy skills (these will be tested as part of the interview process).
- Ability to use data in generating stories and analysis is preferred, while a willingness to learn is essential.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to network and build contacts with industry executives is essential.
- Prior experience of working in the financial or energy journalism sector.
- Strong co‑ordination and time‑management skills with the ability to work well within a team.
- Additional languages useful but not essential.
