This is a senior leadership position within Argus Analytics, combining ownership of one of the most significant market intelligence views in Argus, the creation of market-shaping industry analysis, commercial strategy development, product innovation and engagement with executive clients and industry decision-makers. Argus Analytics forms one half of the advisory division of Argus Media Group. Comprising a global team of 90 analysts, we provide clients with analysis, data and forecasts across 35 commodities and markets spanning oil & gas, petrochemicals, agriculture markets, fertilizers, metals, power and energy transition solutions. Our work is firmly focused on market fundamentals — considering end-to-end value chains, international trade flows and macroeconomic trends.
The Oil Products Team is a foundational part of Argus Analytics and has developed a strong and successful offering covering short-term markets in crude oil, refined products, LPG and petroleum coke. The team delivers regular analysis, forecasts and market narrative on these markets, helping over 350 companies to navigate market uncertainty and risk. We are now working to develop extensive and industry-leading long-term coverage of the midstream and downstream sectors. We are therefore looking for a passionate, driven, innovative and energetic Head of Refined Products Analytics to lead this development.
Reporting to the Global Head of Oil Analytics, the successful candidate will have an ambitious and high-profile mandate to materially grow our existing multi-million-dollar global client base. They will have a particular focus on building the team’s long-term view of refined products markets and refining more generally, leading the development of new services and supporting the growth in bespoke project work. In addition, this role will ensure that the analysis and viewpoints developed are integral to the wider Analytics portfolio - effectively supporting all other associated areas across the business.
The successful candidate will bring the credibility, energy and judgement to lead a global team of analysts, develop compelling content for C-suite clients, and help shape the next generation of Argus Analytics offerings. Furthermore, as a senior member of the Argus’ Analytics leadership team, they will also play a visible role working to enhance Argus Analytics’ brand and commercial presence in all the markets we cover.
Key Responsibilities
- Build an industry-leading Refined Products portfolio of services, designed to support mid- and downstream companies as they engage with the energy transition and the long-term operating environment;
- Initiate and guide research into the drivers and issues impacting the long‑term business environment for mid- and downstream companies, including the creation of a robust refinery modelling capability;
- Develop a robust, transparent and commercially relevant analytical framework for long‑term refined products demand, supply, trade flows, refinery economics and energy transition scenarios;
- Act as one of Argus’ most senior external voices on long‑term refined products and downstream market developments, including through executive briefings, conferences, webinars, flagship research and client engagement;
- Inform and shape Argus’ viewpoints in associated areas (e.g. petrochemicals, natural gas, power, and biofuels), advising our clients and internal stakeholders on how long‑term oil market developments affect their business areas;
- Build, coach and develop a high‑performing team of analysts, ensuring analytical rigour, methodological consistency and strong market‑facing communication.
Skills And Experience
- Exceptional understanding of oil markets, preferably with direct refining experience, likely gained through 15+ years in the sector – either working in industry or a market intelligence organisation;
- Confident and inspiring leadership, with the ability to lead across borders and through change;
- Demonstrable commercial acumen – ideally with success designing and delivering scalable subscription services;
- The gravitas needed to represent Argus with the most senior levels of industry, both delivering confident and clear narratives in person and writing compelling and insightful analysis;
