Argus is where smart people belong and where they can grow. We answer the challenge of illuminating markets and shaping new futures. We are one of the world’s largest companies providing news, analysis and price information to commodities and energy markets. We report first-hand on what’s happening globally in the energy space – from hydrogen to coal, crude oil to green ammonia, carbon markets to wind farms. And we do the same for economically vital markets in agriculture, fertilizers, metals and chemicals. We employ almost 600 journalists worldwide and have 30 offices in Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, China, Japan, Singapore and North and South America.

We are currently looking for a deputy editor to join our global editorial team covering the European Agriculture markets. This is a great opportunity for an experienced journalist with strong news judgment and well-developed analysis skills. You will have a solid grounding in agriculture/commodity markets but be adaptable to different approaches and eager to learn new ways of analysing a rapidly evolving sector. You will have demonstrable expertise in both data-driven analysis and traditional relationship-based reporting and be keen to share your knowledge with less-experienced reporters and to help them develop their own skills.

Your role will include writing and editing news as well as engaging with market participants and assessing prices. The environment is fast-paced but values careful thought. You will enjoy collaborative work with colleagues from a range of backgrounds, many located in Argus’ other offices around the globe. There are opportunities to travel and attend industry events, and to develop networks/specific market knowledge, as well as to present at industry conferences and lead webinar sessions. The role would be ideally suited to an experienced, enthusiastic energy market reporter keen to take the next step in their career.

What will you be doing?

  • Help to guide the team’s coverage, including by editing news and coaching less-experienced reporters
  • Monitor and assess markets to produce daily price assessments, market analysis, news and reports
  • Daily contact with traders, brokers, investors and key market figures to build relationships and gather news
  • Find engaging ways to explain complex issues – including using charts and graphics as appropriate
  • Help to build and curate data sets that help explain market dynamics
  • Attend meetings, conferences and industry events to build contacts, report on news and represent Argus

Skills And Experience

  • Excellent writing, grammar and numeracy skills
  • Educated to bachelor’s degree level from a leading university
  • Previous experience in business/data/energy journalism essential
  • Ability to develop, source and write industry relevant news and analysis to deadline
  • Knowledge of the energy and commodity sectors essential
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to network and build contacts with industry executives
  • Strong co-ordination and time management skills
  • Proficiency/past experience working with Excel

Attributes

  • Demonstrable interest in global business and politics
  • Self-motivated, able to use initiative and inquisitive by nature

Our rapidly growing, award-winning business offers a dynamic environment for talented, entrepreneurial professionals to achieve results and grow their careers. Argus recognises and rewards successful performance and as an Investor in People, we promote professional development and retain a high-performing team committed to building our success.

  • Hybrid working environment (three days in office)
  • 25 days annual holiday with incremental increase up to 30 days
  • Subsidised gym membership
