An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a leading infrastructure delivery organisation working across major programmes within Energy, Transport, Water, Utilities and Defence sectors. With a strong and growing pipeline of work secured across long-term frameworks, this role offers the chance to contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects—from complex, high-value infrastructure schemes to critical maintenance and upgrade programmes. Projects typically span the full asset lifecycle, providing exposure to both pre-contract and post-contract commercial activities.
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take a leading role in managing the commercial performance of projects, ensuring robust governance, value creation, and risk mitigation. You will act as a key commercial interface within integrated project teams, supporting both delivery and strategic objectives while mentoring junior team members. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the commercial function across allocated projects, with responsibilities including:
- Commercial Leadership & Contract Management
- Leading the administration of contracts, ensuring full compliance with contractual obligations and commercial governance processes
- Managing the timely and accurate issuance of contractual notices, correspondence, and change management documentation
- Acting as a key commercial advisor to Project Managers and senior stakeholders
- Supporting commercial strategy development across projects and frameworks
- Cost Management & Financial Control
- Owning cost/value management processes, including:
- Applications for payment
- Cost/value reconciliation
- Forecasting and budgeting
- Producing robust monthly commercial reports, including performance against budget, margin, and cash flow
- Driving cost efficiency and commercial performance across projects
- Risk & Opportunity Management
- Leading risk identification, assessment, and mitigation strategies
- Driving value engineering and commercial optimisation initiatives across project lifecycles
- Proactively managing change, variations, and commercial risks to protect project outcomes
- Supply Chain & Procurement
- Leading procurement activities, including development of subcontract strategies and supply chain engagement
- Managing subcontractor relationships, including:
- Negotiation of terms
- Performance management
- Valuation and final account agreement
- Ensuring best value is achieved across the supply chain
- Stakeholder Management & Collaboration
- Building strong working relationships with clients, delivery partners, and internal teams
- Acting as a key commercial interface with client representatives across complex framework environments
- Supporting and mentoring junior commercial team members, fostering a high-performance culture
- Governance, Compliance & Assurance
- Ensuring compliance with contractual, commercial, and organisational governance frameworks
- Maintaining accurate commercial records and audit trails
- Escalating key commercial, safety, or environmental risks appropriately
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to manage project profitability and performance
- Proven experience operating at Quantity Surveyor / Senior QS level within infrastructure or construction environments
- Experience across one or more of the following sectors: Transport, Water, Energy, or Defence
- In-depth understanding of standard forms of contract (e.g., NEC, JCT)
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and influence decision-making at various levels
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative, integrated delivery team
Qualifications
- Essential: Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (RICS/CICES accredited)
- Desirable: Working towards or already achieved Chartered status (MRICS / MCICES)
