We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to play a pivotal role within a high-profile infrastructure programme. This role will be central in ensuring commercial rigour, effective cost management, and the successful delivery of key project outcomes. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary project team, you will engage closely with internal stakeholders, client representatives, and the supply chain to deliver value, ensure compliance, and maintain high commercial standards. You will collaborate with project controls colleagues—particularly those within cost engineering—and focus on commercial strategy and execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on commercial and contractual matters across assigned projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and governance frameworks.
  • Provide professional oversight of contracts, including drafting, negotiation, and management of subcontract agreements.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on the application of contract forms, with particular emphasis on NEC contracts.
  • Support junior colleagues in developing their commercial expertise, offering mentorship and informal leadership without formal line management.
  • Oversee the procurement and tendering process, ensuring that supplier selection and evaluation is carried out robustly, transparently, and in line with project and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to bid governance, reviews, and approvals, ensuring that risk, cost, and value considerations are fully captured.
  • Manage contract change processes, including the drafting and administration of compensation events, variations, and other contractual notices.
  • Monitor and manage subcontractor performance throughout project execution, mitigating risk and protecting the business against claims or disputes.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams to ensure accurate reporting of costs, budgets, forecasts, and commercial risks.
  • Champion continuous improvement and commercial best practice across all aspects of project delivery.

Skills

  • Direct experience applying NEC principles (especially Option C) is highly advantageous.
  • Proven ability to provide high-quality commercial and contractual advice to senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing procurement, tendering, and contract administration for significant projects.
  • Skilled in risk management, change control, and the resolution of contractual and commercial issues.
  • Ability to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders, from clients to subcontractors.
  • Strong commercial acumen and attention to detail with excellent negotiation skills.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, complex environments while maintaining compliance and governance standards.
