A well-established food manufacturing company based in Redditch is seeking a Mechanical Bias Maintenance Engineer to join its engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served engineer looking to work within a fast-paced production environment, supporting the smooth operation of manufacturing equipment through proactive maintenance and rapid fault resolution.
The Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving production machinery performance, minimising downtime, and ensuring all equipment operates efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across all production machinery and site equipment
- Respond quickly to mechanical breakdowns to minimise production downtime
- Diagnose and repair faults on conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, chains, belts, pneumatics, and associated mechanical systems
- Support continuous improvement projects to enhance machine reliability and production efficiency
- Assist with installations, upgrades, and modifications to production equipment
- Complete engineering documentation accurately and in a timely manner
- Work closely with production teams to ensure smooth operational performance
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety and food hygiene standards
- Support electrical engineers when required as part of a multi-skilled engineering team
The Ideal Candidate
- Time-served Mechanical Engineer (Apprenticeship / NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent)
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and maintenance experience within manufacturing
- Previous experience within food manufacturing, FMCG, packaging, or automated production environments preferred
- Good understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, drives, and conveyor systems
- Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Proactive approach to maintenance and continuous improvement
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
