A leading food manufacturing company based in Wednesbury is seeking a skilled Shift Maintenance Engineer to join its engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a modern manufacturing environment, supporting site performance through proactive maintenance, fault finding, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence. The successful candidate will provide multi-skilled engineering support across the site, ensuring production equipment and plant assets operate efficiently and safely. You will play a key role in maintaining operational reliability while contributing to improvement projects that support long-term business growth.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver planned and reactive maintenance across site equipment and production machinery
- Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults efficiently to minimise downtime
- Use the site computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) to record work, monitor assets and manage maintenance activities
- Support production by responding promptly to engineering breakdowns and technical issues
- Participate actively in shift handovers and operational meetings to monitor engineering performance against KPIs
- Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency
- Provide technical support for engineering projects and site improvements
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with health & safety, food safety, hygiene and environmental standards
- Support and coach team members where required to maintain high engineering standards
- Apply structured problem-solving techniques to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Work collaboratively with production and operational teams to maintain service levels
- Previous experience within an FMCG manufacturing maintenance environment
- UK recognised Electrical or Mechanical qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent or above)
- Strong fault-finding skills across electrical and mechanical systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical engineering drawings
- Basic PLC input/output understanding
- Good understanding of drives, motors, brakes, transmissions, feedback systems and transducers
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced production environment
- Self-motivated, organised and proactive approach
- Previous experience within food manufacturing
- Health & Safety qualification or certification
- BS7671 18th Edition qualification
- Experience with SCADA and machine control systems
- VSD programming experience
- Fabrication skills
- MEWP licence
4 on 4 off rotation: 2 Days: 7:00am - 7:00pm, 2 Nights: 7:00pm - 7:00am
