We are currently seeking to employ a talented and experienced Gardener to assist the Head Gardener in maintaining 13 acres of garden and woodland at Ormiston House, Belfast.
Location: Ormiston House, Belfast
Contract: 40 Hours, permanent, Monday to Friday.
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience

Job Summary: The successful candidate will be responsible for planting and maintaining the gardens, ensuring that the gardens and specific areas of the designed landscape are presented and maintained to a high standard. The role will include a range of practical horticultural tasks, to develop, enhance, conserve and maintain the grounds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To assist in the carrying out of general maintenance of the gardens/grounds, including grass cutting, hedge trimming, managing trees and shrubs, clearing leaves and weed management;
- To undertake horticultural operations such as planting, pruning and deadheading;
- To use powered hand tools and plant and to undertake daily maintenance and setting of machinery;
- To carry out regular power washing of large areas of paving;
- To drive and be responsible for allocated vehicles/machinery, when required i.e vehicle checks, required routine maintenance and cleaning, completion of associated paperwork.
Tools/equipment will be provided and successful candidate must have experience with:
- Power tools such as chainsaws, mowers, strimmers, hedge-cutters, etc.;
- Hand-tools such as spades, forks, trowels, rakes, hoes, shears, and secateurs.
Experience / Essential Criteria:
- Hold an appropriate Horticultural qualification minimum of level 2 in Horticulture RHS or City and Guild;
- At least 6 months relevant experience e.g. Grounds Maintenance;
- Previous practical gardening/horticulture experience, with sound demonstrable plant knowledge;
- PA1/PA6A Spraying certificate;
- Sound plant knowledge, pest management;
- Proven skills in arboriculture techniques;
- Sound knowledge of basic tool and machinery use and maintenance;
- Aware of Health and Safety issues including manual handling;
- Current category B driving licence;
- Honest, reliable and dependable;
- Good verbal communication and organisational skills;
- Motivated, passionate and attention to detail;
- Take pride in your work, passionate for gardening and a desire to work to a high standard;
- Ability to follow direction, but also work on own initiative and as part of a team;
- Right to Work in the UK (UK Citizens - Passport or Birth Certificate).
