About the role

This is a new role within a dynamic team and arises during an exciting period of developing the Finance operating model at Argenta. This role will support in managing the financial affairs of Argenta Syndicate Management Limited (ASML) and its managed syndicates by providing senior management with the accurate, timely and appropriate information, analysis and forecasts required to make important business decisions. The role will support the overall development and improvement of the budgeting process, financial projections, and operating forecasts to make better use of data to align and rationalise process and will also support elements of the design and execution of a new finance target operating model centred around the implementation of a new data tool and its integration of FP&A process alongside reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Budgeting and forecasting
    • Develop and maintain budget, forecast and cash flow models and templates
    • Provide guidance, including principles and timetables, to support the business in setting budgets and forecasts
  • Data collection and control
    • Use & analysis of outputs (GAAP & Solvency II)
    • Establish a re-forecast approach & timetable
    • Work with senior members of the team to challenge the business on the robustness of budget and forecast assumptions
    • Provide insights into variances between actual results and budget/forecast and discuss these with relevant cost centre managers to assess whether remedial actions are needed
  • Financial analysis
    • Analyse financial performance, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements to identify trends, risks, and opportunities
    • Prepare detailed financial reports for senior management, including variance analysis and performance metrics
    • Support ad-hoc analysis as required, including scenario modelling and sensitivity analysis
    • Present key findings and insights to management
  • Business partnering
    • Work with senior members of the team to document, verify and agree forecast assumptions & parameters
    • Act as a finance liaison to various departments to drive financial discipline and accountability
  • General
    • Undertake any other related duties as may be reasonably required.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree educated and likely to have an appropriate professional qualification
  • Good knowledge & understanding of accounting process and regulatory/statutory reporting requirements: gained in a Syndicate/Agency or similar environment
  • Able to perform effectively under pressure and be able to prioritise workload and targets to ensure regular tight deadlines are met
  • Self driven, organised and can demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks
  • Capable of developing and maintaining effective relationships at all levels with stakeholders across the business; delivering services and translating financial data into meaningful and insightful information
  • Accuracy and attention to detail in all dealings with all information.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Competency in use of office IT applications
  • Ability to support process improvement and increase efficiencies, continually looking for opportunities to add value and working with the wider team and management to deliver positive change
  • Flexible and a willingness to learn
