About the role: To contribute to the modernisation of actuarial processes and operating models. This will include the shift from spreadsheet-based processes to scalable database and Python/R solutions, ensuring automation is delivered in a controlled, prioritised, and business-aligned manner. To apply qualified actuarial expertise across all actuarial teams, providing flexible support during BAU cycles as well as a wide range of non BAU analytical and project-based activities. Part of a high performing team of 4, broader Actuarial team of 20. Reporting to Head of Actuarial Development and Analytics and opportunity to interact and work with the Chief Risk Officer, Chief Actuary, Actuarial Heads and the wider business.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Development and Analytics in shaping the future development strategy of the actuarial analytics capability.
  • Lead and contribute to actuarial analytical projects, applying actuarial judgement and data analysis to address emerging business questions.
  • Communicate analytical findings to actuarial and non-actuarial stakeholders, helping translate complex analysis into practical business insight.
  • Work collaboratively with Pricing, Reserving, Capital, Risk and Exposure Management R&D teams to provide analytical support and technical expertise where required.
  • Support initiatives to modernise actuarial data, systems and analytical workflows.
  • Support the implementation, development and ongoing optimisation of the central reserving database in collaboration with the reserving team.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the way actuarial work is performed, developing innovative approaches that enhance efficiency, insight and robustness of analysis.
  • Support the development of junior actuarial analysts, providing guidance on analytical techniques, modelling approaches, and professional development.
  • Support the operation of the actuarial automation governance framework, including approvals, testing standards and development controls.
  • Help ensure analytical tools and models are developed in line with appropriate governance, documentation and validation standards.
  • Maintain awareness of new technologies and industry trends, suggesting advancements that may be relevant to actuarial work, data science, and process automation.
  • Building strong working relationships with stakeholders across the actuarial teams and the wider business.
  • Maintain appropriate records for all work.

Skills and experience:

  • Newly qualified or close to qualifying.
  • Strong academic track record.
  • Experience and knowledge of General Insurance or London Insurance Market.
  • Excellent Excel and report writing skills.
  • Knowledge of Python or other coding experience is required.
  • Knowledge of Power BI / Qlik is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Res-Q / Hx / Igloo is desirable.
  • Attention to detail and ability to solve problems.
  • Self-starter who uses their own initiative.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Able to tailor communication based on stakeholders involved.
  • Strong work ethic, comfortable working through periods of high demand and able to prioritise workload.
