Job Description
Argent Energy is a leading European biodiesel producer, backed by Swire, with a mission to decarbonise transport through the use of waste-based feedstocks. We have sites in England and Amsterdam.
Main purpose of the role
A direct report to the UK Head of SHEQ with key responsibility to advise in all aspects of HSE with a primary focus on waste and environmental management.
What you will be doing:
- Provide expert advice and support to site teams on environmental compliance, waste management, and health & safety matters, ensuring alignment with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site environmental programs, including waste minimisation & pollution prevention.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with environmental permit conditions, including monitoring and reporting to regulatory bodies as required.
- Conduct environmental and waste audits, inspections, and risk assessments to ensure compliance and identify improvements.
- Maintain and update the site's environmental aspects and impacts register, ensuring it reflects current operations and supports ISO 14001 certification.
- Collaborate with operational teams to embed environmental and safety considerations into daily activities.
- Support incident investigations related to environmental and waste issues, ensuring root cause analysis and effective corrective actions.
- Liaise with external waste contractors to ensure compliant and cost-effective waste disposal solutions.
- Monitor and report HSE management information.
Your key relationships will be:
- You will liaise with regulators on waste management aspects where required (APHA, EA, HSE)
- You will advise and liaise with business functions to ensure legislative or compliance requirements are met.
- You will work with Procurement and vendors/suppliers to ensure waste contracts are cost effective
Skills and behaviours your will need to be successful:
- Environmental Permits
- ISO 14001
- COMAH legislation
- IT Literate
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to engage at all levels and influence best practice in waste disposal
- Attention to detail
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
Qualifications and experience required:
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent subject Diploma level (highly desirable)
- Recognised waste management certificate (WAMITAB or CIWM)
- Experience in a waste management or health and safety role
- Experience in dealing with recognised HS&E audit systems e.g. HSG65 or ISO45001 and ISO 14001.
- Experience in working with environmental permits and preferably would have worked on COMAH sites
- Experience in dealing with animal by-product regulations (desirable)
