Areti are recruiting for a Network Security Engineer for a well-established infrastructure and engineering services organisation delivering complex projects across utilities, energy, and critical national infrastructure. You’ll have a strong background across Network Security, Microsoft 365, and enterprise infrastructure, playing a key role in protecting critical systems and ensuring robust, secure connectivity across on-prem and cloud environments. This role is heavily focused on designing, implementing, and improving network security controls, while leveraging M365 security capabilities to enhance identity, access, and collaboration protection across the organisation.
How your day will look:
- Network Security & Infrastructure: Design, implement, and maintain secure network architectures across enterprise environments. Manage and optimise network security controls including firewalls, VPNs, segmentation, and secure access solutions. Identify vulnerabilities across network and infrastructure layers and implement mitigations. Work closely with infrastructure teams to ensure secure configuration of servers, endpoints, and network components. Support secure connectivity across hybrid cloud environments and critical systems. Review and enhance network-related security policies, standards, and best practices.
- M365 Security (Identity & Collaboration Focus): Strengthen identity and access management controls using Microsoft 365 and Azure AD. Enhance MFA, conditional access, and identity protection policies. Secure collaboration tools including Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Teams. Identify and remediate misconfigurations across M365 security controls. Improve protection against email-based threats including phishing, spoofing, and malicious attachments. Support device compliance and endpoint security integration with M365.
- Security Improvement & Collaboration: Work with internal teams to embed security best practice into infrastructure and network design. Contribute to security roadmaps and continuous improvement initiatives. Support audits and compliance efforts related to network and cloud security controls. Document security configurations, standards, and technical design decisions. Identify opportunities to improve automation, efficiency, and resilience within the environment.
Experience wanted:
- Strong experience in network security engineering within enterprise environments.
- Proven background securing infrastructure and hybrid cloud environments.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 security and identity controls.
- Solid understanding of network architecture, firewalls, VPNs, and segmentation.
- Experience hardening and securing Windows-based environments.
- Knowledge of cloud and infrastructure security best practices.
- Experience using scripting (e.g. PowerShell) to support automation and configuration.
- Exposure to large-scale, complex IT or infrastructure environments.
- Relevant certifications in networking, security, or cloud technologies (or equivalent practical experience).
- Degree-level education in IT, Cybersecurity or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
