Job Description

Ares Opportunistic Credit is seeking an Associate to join its team located in London. Ares Opportunistic Credit primarily targets debt and structured investments - seeking potential equity upside where possible - in sponsored and non-sponsored companies requiring flexible capital. We partner with healthy, stressed and distressed companies, operating in the void between traditional senior private debt and private equity. The team seeks to consistently invest in a range of private opportunities and flex into public markets when attractive - often seeking to leverage a public investment to position the strategy to lead a private follow-on opportunity.

We believe private market investment opportunities require a collaborative approach, especially in situations where companies require a flexible capital solution. As such, we seek to partner with management teams, sponsors / owners, and/or boards of directors as they evaluate capital structure initiatives. Our team can better understand a company\\\'s specific financing needs by performing deep, private due diligence, when available, on the company and subsector ecosystem, and through our partnership approach can craft a bespoke capital solution that can provide the company the flexibility and capital needed to play offense or defense.

Primary responsibilities

  • Thoroughly analyze and underwrite potential investments including reviews of historical financials, development of cashflow projection models and investment analyses. Apply various qualitative and quantitative methods, including data analysis and scenario analysis, to assess the relative risk and relative value of potential investments.
  • Engaging in all aspects of due diligence and business analysis to develop and refine investment theses
  • Participating in structuring, negotiating and documenting investments
  • Communicating and defending investment theses to internal stakeholders and investment committees
  • Actively monitoring existing investments in the portfolio

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor\\\'s degree or international equivalent with excellent academic record

Experience Required:

  • 2-5 years of investment banking, private equity, public and/or private credit, principal investing, or consulting experience

  • Self-motivated and driven; ability to work effectively in a collegial, fast moving, demanding, and dynamic environment.
  • Fluent spoken and written communication in English.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel with strong technical skills and ability to build an LBO model and other complex operating models
  • Excellent research and due diligence skills with an aptitude for numeracy
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills as well as being a team player
  • Evidence of intellectual curiosity, creative problem-solving skills, and adaptability.
