We’re looking for a Systems Engineer with a passion for technology and asset management to join our Engineering Team. You’ll be building the systems through which our firm-wide investment process runs. This role is ideally suited to an individual who wants to be involved in a tech‑focused firm and brings systems experience as well as coding expertise in Rust and/or Python.

In this varied role, you will be responsible for owning end‑to‑end systems deliveries to scale the firm across various business lines. You will help build the core services upon which the Ares Systematic Credit investment process runs. These services cover a wide range of areas including reference data, trade management, position management and compliance. You will also integrate these core services with external parties such as middle office and fund administrators. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across the firm, including Portfolio Management, Operations and Compliance, as well as within your team of Systems, Quantitative and Platform Infrastructure Engineers, so strong stakeholder management skills are important. Knowledge of products across the fixed income asset class, trade lifecycle, third‑party system integration, and operational processes are not essential but will be highly valued.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Utilising, and contributing to, the Ares Systematic Credit software development toolkit, including source code control, CI/CD platform, test infrastructure, packaging, and deployment.
  • Building common libraries and software infrastructure to support the above activities.
  • Reviewing and testing of code and systems, to the standards defined in the Ares Systematic Credit software development process.
  • Supporting production systems.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

  • Desire to work as part of a team and strong communication skills.
  • Eagerness and ability to learn and develop expertise in new technologies and fixed income (if no prior exposure).
  • Ability to write high‑quality Python code.
  • A strong interest in coding Rust.
  • An understanding of the importance of testing.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and related business analysis.
  • Ability to parse problems and present solutions.
  • Ownership for the code you write.

Additional (but not essential) experience:

  • Server‑side development experience.
  • Experience with the fixed income asset class (credit, interest rates, bonds, CDS, and related derivatives).
  • Experience working with SQL databases.
  • Experience designing APIs.
  • Experience with Rust.
  • Experience with Kubernetes.
