Arenko is an Energy Tech company using advanced software to optimise energy storage, making electricity grids more flexible, reliable, and zero‑carbon. Our platform enables grid operators (such as National Grid in the UK) and asset owners to maximise efficiency and revenue in an evolving energy landscape.
You’ll work in a cross‑functional, agile team, building our software platform Nimbus. Your work will have a direct impact on the transition to a sustainable energy future by:
- Automating energy trading across multiple markets in the UK and internationally.
- Processing and managing high‑frequency telemetry data from battery sites, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Developing low‑level control and dispatch systems for power management.
- Providing seamless access to platform functionality via our web application and public API.
In practice, this means you’ll:
- Design, build, and maintain backend services using our tech stack, which includes:
- Go and Postgres
- Cassandra, TimescaleDB, S3 and Athena
- Pulsar for event‑driven design
- AWS for infrastructure
- GitLab for version control and code management, and CI/CD
- Contribute to technical leadership, mentorship, and best practices within a team.
- Stay adaptable and pragmatic in a fast‑changing industry that Arenko is actively disrupting, balancing long‑term strategy with short‑term needs.
- Take part in an on‑call rotation, as part of taking end‑to‑end ownership of technical operations.
If you are interested in leadership roles including people management, please let us know! This is not essential for this role, but we will have a variety of roles available as the company grows.
We value diverse experiences and know that not everyone will meet every requirement. If you’re passionate about our mission and have relevant skills, we’d love to hear from you.
- Experience with Go and cloud‑native development (AWS, microservices, CI/CD).
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work autonomously in a collaborative environment.
- Knowledge of database technologies and event‑driven architectures.
- Ability to communicate technical solutions to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- A practical, flexible mindset - comfortable navigating uncertainty and evolving priorities.
Our Hiring Process:
- Intro Call (30 min): Informal chat with an engineering leader.
- Take‑Home Technical Test (~2 hours): Real‑world problem‑solving challenge.
- Technical Interview (90 minutes): Discuss your test, approach, and code decisions. We’ll also ask about other technical projects you’ve worked on in your career.
- Final Interview (1 hour): Behavioural and leadership discussion with your future manager.
- Decision: We aim to provide quick and constructive feedback.
So what’s in it for you? Hopefully the first thing is you love what we do and want to be part of the mission but let’s be honest…that’s probably not why you’re getting up to work everyday. We know that rewarding our employees is the best way to make them feel valued. This is a journey we’d love you to take with us and as we grow we look forward to finding more ways to reward and thank you for your commitment to our mission.
