As a Casual Groundsperson, you'll play a vital role in maintaining a first‑class racing surface throughout the year, ensuring it meets the highest standards of safety, quality, and presentation. Working as part of a dedicated team, you'll help care for all outdoor areas, contributing to the overall look and feel of the venue, while also supporting the upkeep of estate buildings and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Work under the guidance of the Clerk of the Course to deliver an effective and consistent maintenance programme.
- Prepare and reinstate the racing surface before, during, and after events, using tractors, machinery, and specialist equipment.
- Operate a range of gardening and agricultural tools, vehicles, and materials safely and efficiently.
- Maintain the highest standards across all grounds and outdoor spaces.
- Support general estate maintenance, including buildings and equipment.
- Follow all health and safety regulations and company procedures at all times.
Schedule & Physical Demands
Due to the nature of the role, flexibility is essential. You'll be expected to work unsocial hours on a regular basis, including evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays. This role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions and can be physically demanding.
Qualifications
We’re looking for a reliable, motivated individual who takes pride in their work and thrives in a hands‑on, outdoor environment. You'll have excellent time‑management and organisational skills, a strong attendance record, and the flexibility to adapt to a varied role that includes unsocial hours. Comfortable working under pressure, you’ll communicate effectively and contribute positively as part of a team, while maintaining high standards in all conditions. A full, clean driving licence is essential, and while not required, equine experience, tractor driving experience, and PA1/PA6 certifications would be advantageous.
