We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Clerk of the Course. As Clerk of the Course at Sedgefield Racecourse, you\'ll lead the operational delivery of all racing activities, ensuring the track, stables, weighing room, and paddock areas meet the highest standards.

Managing and supporting the groundstaff team, you\'ll work closely with the Head Groundsperson to deliver optimal conditions for racing in line with ARC best practice and BHA regulations. You\'ll also represent the racecourse in collaboration with central teams on race planning, fixtures, and funding.

Responsibilities

  • Efficient and compliant delivery of Racedays, in line with internal best practice and BHAGIs.
  • Oversight and delivery of excellent standards of Turf Husbandry.
  • Effective line management of the groundstaff team.
  • Constructive liaison with the Race Planning, Fixtures and Funding team.
  • Strategic leadership inclusive of effective use of budgets and investment planning.
  • Lead on racing related external communications, liaising with colleagues, participants and the media.
  • Manage the racecourse relationship with the BHA and industry stakeholder groups.

Requirements

  • Recent and relevant experience within the Clerking Role (Essential)
  • Practical and relevant experience within Race Planning process (Essential)
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of commercial objectives
  • Strong people management and communications skills.
  • Experience of budget planning and management. A strong work ethic.
  • Organised and methodical with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Resilient with the ability to lead and take decisions when under pressure.
  • Approachable and thoughtful with the ability to self-reflect.
