We are looking for someone who is highly organised, visible and decisive, with the ability to bring structure to a fast-moving environment.

Priorities can change quickly, so you will need to plan ahead, communicate clearly and make confident, practical decisions to keep the operation running smoothly.

Key responsibilities will include

  • Taking overall ownership of day-to-day yard operations
  • Coordinating activity between yard, transport and production teams
  • Managing vehicle movements, loading, unloading and material flow across the site
  • Planning yard capacity and ensuring space is used safely and efficiently
  • Working closely with transport and production teams to anticipate requirements and avoid delays or bottlenecks
  • Making fast, practical decisions when priorities change or operational issues arise
  • Maintaining clear communication across departments
  • Managing and developing the yard team, setting clear expectations and maintaining high standards
  • Planning staffing levels and ensuring the right resources are available to meet operational demand
  • Managing permanent and agency labour where required
  • Driving high standards of health & safety, housekeeping and operational discipline
  • Ensuring pedestrian, vehicle and plant movements are managed safely
  • Identifying risks, challenging unsafe behaviour and ensuring incidents and near misses are reported and followed through
  • Monitoring yard performance and identifying opportunities to improve flow, efficiency and productivity
  • Ensuring plant, equipment and operational areas are managed effectively
  • Providing clear operational updates and escalating significant issues where required
  • Supporting longer-term planning and continuous improvement across the site

About You

You will ideally have

  • Significant experience managing a busy yard or a similar transport, logistics, recycling, waste or manufacturing operation
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • The ability to make confident decisions under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to coordinate multiple teams and priorities
  • Strong people management and leadership experience
  • Experience managing staffing levels, performance and operational standards
  • A strong understanding of health & safety within a yard, transport or production environment
  • Experience working around HGVs, plant, loading and unloading operations or high-volume material movements
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach
  • The ability to identify potential issues early and put plans in place before they affect the operation
  • Confidence working with senior managers and taking ownership of your area

Experience within recycling, waste management or WEEE would be particularly beneficial.
