The predicted salary is between 28163 - 30559 £ per year.
The person appointed will be responsible for directing a team of Park Rangers and undertake duties and tasks ensuring all areas are open, safe, well maintained and tidy for the enjoyment of Parks and Cemeteries users. To ensure effective communication with site users, other members of the team and line management. Assist in the community development of the Service through internal and external initiatives that engage Service stakeholders.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organise, allocate, and supervise the Ranger Service Team across the geographical area of the council.
- Motivate and support staff as appropriate and to identify training needs.
- Undertake induction and on-going training of both permanent and temporary staff including volunteers.
- Undertake any horticultural and associated maintenance including cleaning duties within all Parks facilities.
- Deal with queries from members of the public in a courteous and sympathetic manner.
- Investigate and report on complaints and queries and ensure corrective action is carried out where necessary.
- Deliver public facing event activities including supervising and working with volunteers.
- Carry out regular patrols of the Boroughs to ensure that they are kept clean and safe.
- Carry out checks to identify potential damage or vandalism and report same to Line Manager, other appropriate Council Officers and/or emergency services as necessary.
- Keep appropriate written and electronic records and provide statements and reports as required.
- Driving allocated vehicle and the transport of associated resources in a safe and proper manner.
- Ensure that all vehicles, plant, machinery, tools and equipment are correctly cleaned, serviced and maintained.
- Record, tag and report any defects.
- Undertake and maintain inspection records, employee records including timesheets, work completed sheets, inventories and the receipt of sickness certificates.
- Adhere to and comply with all Council policies and procedures relevant to this role.
- Responsibility for opening and closing all lockable areas including gates and buildings as directed.
- Ensure appropriate use of supplied IT Equipment, mobile phones and associated software.
- Support the operation and implementation of the Local Biodiversity Action Plan (LBAP).
- Participate in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of the Service Plans.
- Comply with and promote equality, health and safety in accordance with Council Policies and legal requirements.
- Achieve high standards of personal performance, through meeting agreed personal targets and undertaking planned programmes of professional development.
- Examine opportunities to gain efficiencies and improve effectiveness.

Person Specification:
Qualifications:
- Essential: NVQ Level 2 in relevant community or environmental subject or an equivalent qualification.
- Desirable: NVQ Level 3 in relevant community or environmental subject or an equivalent qualification.
Experience:
- Essential: Two years experience in supervisory experience within a team setting, record keeping and reporting procedures, understanding of work planning and control, and providing a high-quality service in a public facing role.
- Desirable: Experience in key areas of Horticultural/Cemetery Supervision.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
- Excellent people management and motivational skills.
- Understanding of Health and Safety and practical risk assessments.
- Use of IT Systems.
- The ability to take responsibility for a team, use own initiative and work unsupervised.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills including an understanding and appreciation of the needs of the Public.
Other Requirements:
- Driving is a key requirement of the post; you should hold a full Category B or higher driving licence.
- Commit to completing a C1+E driving licence, if category not held already.
- Be prepared to work outside of normal working hours at weekends, evenings and public holidays.
- Appointment will be subject to completion of a medical questionnaire including a pre-employment Drugs and Alcohol Screening.
- A driving assessment by Council will form part of the selection process.
