Senior Quantity Surveyor

The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their growing commercial team in Dublin, supporting the delivery of a major new Irish Rail infrastructure contract.

This is an exciting opportunity to join at the mobilisation stage of a long-term framework, where you will play a pivotal role in establishing commercial processes, driving project performance and helping to build a high-performing commercial function from the ground up.

Working closely with the Head of Commercial and Account Director, you will take ownership of key commercial activities across multiple workstreams while supporting the growth and development of the wider team.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to make a real impact on a nationally significant infrastructure programme.

Our client continues to expand across Ireland through long-term partnerships with organisations including Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and Iarnród Éireann, delivering projects that improve rail connectivity, enhance safety, increase network resilience and support the transition to lower-carbon transport infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for

  • Managing all pre-contract and post-contract commercial activities across major infrastructure projects.
  • Taking ownership of cost management, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting to ensure commercial success.
  • Preparing, reviewing and managing compensation events, variations and contractual changes in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Leading subcontract procurement, contract administration, valuations and payment processes.
  • Managing applications for payment, commercial reporting and estimating activities.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Supporting the mobilisation and development of the commercial team as the contract continues to grow.
  • Working closely with senior leadership to improve commercial processes and drive operational excellence.
  • Supporting pricing negotiations and commercial discussions with clients and supply chain partners.
  • Mentoring, coaching and developing junior commercial team members.
  • Providing commercial support across multiple projects while maintaining high levels of accuracy and contractual compliance.

About You

We're looking for a commercially driven professional who can combine strong technical knowledge with excellent stakeholder management skills.

Essential Experience

  • Previous experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager or in a similar senior commercial role within infrastructure, rail or civil engineering.
  • Strong commercial awareness with proven experience in cost control, forecasting and financial management.
  • Experience managing subcontract procurement, supply chain relationships and payment processes.
  • Strong understanding of estimating, applications for payment and commercial reporting.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills with the ability to build lasting client relationships.
  • Experience working within fast-paced environments, particularly during contract mobilisation or business growth.
  • Good understanding of Design & Construction contract forms, including NEC or similar target cost contracts.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  • RICS, SCSI accreditation or working towards chartership would be highly advantageous.
