Purpose of the Role:
To contribute to the Globe PI Team, meeting and exceeding its growth and profitability targets, while maintaining Underwriting discipline within the scope of the Binding Authority and Globe’s Underwriting appetite. Responsible for underwriting, developing, and managing a profitable PI portfolio in line with Globe’s underwriting strategy, delegated authority, and risk appetite. The role will provide technical leadership, contribute to portfolio strategy, support broker relationships, and act as a referral point for complex risks, while helping to mentor junior underwriters.
Key Role Accountabilities:
- Underwrite new and renewal business in line with the Globe Underwriting appetite and Delegated Underwriting Agreements (DUA).
- Build and maintain strong broker relationships, supporting business development, retention, and profitable growth.
- Produce MI to be shared internally or with capacity providers.
- Assess, price, and structure PI risks, including complex and non-standard submissions, ensuring appropriate terms, conditions, and endorsements.
- Help manage and develop a profitable portfolio, monitoring performance against loss ratio, rate, and growth targets.
- Manage, mentor and support PI Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters, promoting underwriting discipline and best practice.
- Act as a senior referral point for PI underwriting decisions, providing technical guidance and oversight.
- Build good working relationships with capacity providers.
- Assist the Head of PI with monthly and quarterly communications to capacity providers.
- Participate in regular team meetings to review our progress against targets and identify and suggest improvements for growth areas.
- Delivery of daily tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ Insurance experience, ideally in Underwriting.
- Strong Broker relationships.
- Strong technical knowledge of PI Products.
- An in-depth understanding of the PI market.
- Minimum academic qualifications required: A-levels.
- High level proficiency in MS Outlook, Word and Excel – PowerPoint experience would be beneficial also.
- Strong negotiation, influencing skills, analytical, verbal and written communication skills are valuable.
Person Specification:
Candidates should be motivated, success driven and enjoy working within a dynamic high performing team. They will need to be comfortable and capable of working with employees from other departments within Globe. The successful candidate will need to have experience communicating with Brokers and providing articulate responses both in person and via email. As a trading underwriter the candidate must have strong technical knowledge, enabling them to underwrite accounts and suitably document their thought process. The role will be hybrid, split between the office and working from home. As such you should have the ability to be self-motivated/disciplined. Accuracy and attention to detail is critical as well as the ability to handle multiple priorities. Strong technical underwriting judgement with a commercial mindset. Confident decision-maker, comfortable handling complex risks. Excellent broker relationship management and communication skills. Analytical and detail-oriented, with strong risk assessment capability. Ability to manage, mentor, and support junior team members. Organised, resilient, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced MGA environment. High standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
