The Ardex Group is a leading player in the construction industry, known for delivering high‑quality materials into the tiling & flooring sectors across the UK. Due to internal promotion, we are looking for a Manager of Research and Development to ensure cost‑effective products are designed and formulated to anticipate and satisfy the requirements of the company and its markets while also ensuring the continuity of supply to the business through the evaluation of strategic raw material alternatives.

The Role:

  • Plan and deliver development of new products and prepare innovative projects to ensure business growth of the Company
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant technologies and potential innovations
  • Manage the Company’s R&D resource to ensure the department achieves its overall objectives
  • Manage raw material programme
  • Investigate and resolve causes of out‑of‑specification products, particularly regarding Factory Production Control test results
  • Provide technical support to Quality Control in setting up relevant test schedules and resolving quality issues
  • Provide analytical service to the UK Businesses to help resolve customer problems, analyse competitors’ products, raw materials etc
  • Provide technical support to Sales and Marketing and Technical Services in the testing of customer products and supporting the preparation of technical literature
  • Manage and operate the department in accordance with the Company’s Integrated Policy and Procedure Manual and the requirements of BS ISO 9001
  • Deputise upon request for the UK Technical Director at technical meetings, internal and external
  • Supervise introduction of new products into the manufacturing process

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience within a technical role, preferably within ceramics, adhesives or construction industries together with a degree‑level science qualification, or membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry as a Chartered Chemist or Member.
