The pensions market remains exceptionally robust, with growth driven by firms that have built a strong and credible presence in the sector. As the landscape continues to evolve at pace, many practices are reassessing both their professional support capability and the strategic value the role now delivers to ensure their teams can continue to grow and operate at the forefront of the market.

What was once viewed as a predominantly precedent‑focused position has developed into a central, high‑impact function. Today’s pensions PSLs shape and execute a team’s knowledge strategy, support partners in managing and elevating the team’s external profile through high‑quality online publications, and ensure the practice remains visible, relevant and accessible to clients across LinkedIn and other targeted channels. They also play a key role in helping fee‑earners strengthen their own online presence, ensuring the whole team is positioned effectively in an increasingly competitive market.

Approaches to training and development have also shifted in a hybrid working world. Professional support lawyers are now integral to ensuring junior lawyers receive consistent, accessible and high‑quality support, while keeping the wider team fully informed of emerging developments and their likely impact on clients and the market.

As innovation continues to reshape the legal sector, PSLs are increasingly working alongside firms’ innovation teams to streamline processes and harness artificial intelligence in a way that enhances the delivery of information to clients.

We are currently working with a number of firms, several of which are running discreet, off‑market searches to identify mid‑senior level fee‑earners interested in making their first move into a PSL role, as well as established PSLs seeking the next step in their career with firms committed to operating at the forefront of the pension market. Over the years, we have supported numerous pensions PSLs, alongside PSLs in other practice areas, in securing successful moves to firms that prioritise growth, invest in their knowledge teams and offer meaningful long‑term career development.

Before moving into recruitment, Jane worked as a pension solicitor and now specialises in pension recruitment. She has over a decade of experience of moving pension solicitors at all levels nationally and will be able to support you with your next move.
