A specialist property company is seeking an experienced litigator to join its in-house legal team as a senior hire. This is a high-autonomy role at the heart of a business where legal matters are consequential and genuinely varied β€” from complex leasehold disputes to Building Safety Act compliance. You will own your caseload, advise senior stakeholders directly, and help shape how legal risk is managed across the organisation.

Location: Finchley Central, London (N3)

Working pattern: Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:30pm | 3 days working from home

Contract: Permanent, full-time | 6-month probationary period

Reporting to: Director of Legal and Head of Litigation

What you'll be doing:

  • Managing your own caseload of property litigation matters with minimal supervision, from pre-litigation through to advocacy at trial or tribunal.
  • Advising internal clients across the business β€” including Directors, Operations, Building Safety, Property Management, Credit Control and Consents β€” on property law and regulatory compliance.
  • Instructing and overseeing external solicitors and Counsel, managing costs carefully and obtaining appropriate expenditure authorities.
  • Drafting and reviewing documents, agreements, policies and procedures across the business.
  • Supervising and delegating to junior solicitors and other team members, contributing to workflow allocation.
  • Taking instructions directly from the Director of Legal, Head of Litigation, and Managing Director as required.

About you β€” essential:

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England & Wales with a current, unrestricted Practising Certificate and 7+ years PQE.
  • Significant experience of residential landlord and tenant litigation (long leasehold properties β€” not the private rented/AST sector).
  • Demonstrated experience advising on matters relating to the Building Safety Act 2022 and its associated Regulations.
  • Experience of advocacy before Courts and/or Tribunals.
  • Experience of general commercial litigation.
  • Strong drafting skills and an effective, confident communicator at senior level.
  • High degree of integrity, reliability and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to manage a caseload under pressure, to deadlines, and with minimal supervision.
  • Competent in MS Word, Excel and Outlook (intermediate level or above).

Desirable (not essential):

  • Experience of conveyancing, property acquisitions and property-related finance.
  • Experience of company and commercial transactional matters.
  • Knowledge of GDPR legislation.

Why this role?

This is a genuine opportunity for a senior litigator to step away from billable hour pressures, work closely with business leaders, and have a direct impact on how a specialist organisation manages legal risk β€” with the breadth of work to match.
