We’re quietly working with an ambitious new organisation being built to operate at significant scale within the pension and investment ecosystem.
We’re looking for an exceptional General Counsel who wants more than a traditional in‑house legal role.
This is an opportunity to join at the beginning, helping shape the legal, governance and regulatory foundations of a business with significant growth potential, while working closely with its founders and leadership team as the organisation develops.
The role
As General Counsel, you will have a broad and genuinely influential remit.
You will take ownership of the organisation’s legal and governance framework, advising on everything from pension and investment matters to corporate governance, regulation, risk and company secretarial responsibilities.
- Leading the legal, governance and company secretarial functions.
- Advising the board, founders and senior leadership team on complex legal and strategic matters.
- Providing expert guidance across pension, investments, regulation and corporate governance.
- Establishing robust governance frameworks, policies and processes.
- Supporting investment activity, commercial arrangements and strategic transactions.
- Managing regulatory relationships and ensuring the organisation remains ahead of its obligations.
- Building, developing and leading a legal team as the business scales.
- Helping shape the organisation's culture, risk framework and approach to decision-making.
- Acting as a trusted strategic adviser - not simply a technical legal resource.
- The opportunity
This is particularly suited to someone who enjoys building rather than inheriting.
You’ll have the opportunity to influence how the organisation operates, how it is governed and how its legal and risk functions develop.
There is also scope for equity participation, reflecting the seniority of the appointment and the entrepreneurial nature of the opportunity.
We’re interested in speaking with existing General Counsels or deputy General Counsels who combine deep technical expertise with commercial judgement, leadership and an appetite for something different.
What matters most is that you understand the intersection of pensions, investment, governance and regulation, can operate comfortably at board level, and have the leadership capability to build and develop a team.
This is not a role for someone looking simply to maintain the status quo.
It’s for someone who wants to help create what comes next.
