Workshop Plant Mechanic/Technician

£16‑£18 per hour DOE

Location: Ramsey, England, United Kingdom

The Role

As a Workshop Plant Mechanic/Technician, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and repairing a wide range of plant assets and towable equipment, ensuring everything is in safe working order and performing at its best. You’ll work both independently and alongside your colleagues to deliver high-quality service and support to our operational teams.

Responsibilities

  • Servicing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of construction plant assets and towable equipment
  • Diagnosing faults using specialist tools and equipment, and carrying out effective repairs
  • Performing regular inspections of machines and components to ensure safety and reliability
  • Logging maintenance and inspection records digitally using a tablet, including compliance images
  • Working closely with the workshop supervisor to plan and prioritise tasks
  • Attending breakdowns on site when required, helping to minimise downtime and disruption
  • Delivering excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 (or above) in Plant, Mechanical, or Heavy Vehicle Maintenance – or an equivalent qualification – and ideally a minimum of two to three years’ hands‑on experience in a similar environment.
  • Solid experience in diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance, with a good understanding of health, safety, and compliance requirements in a workshop setting.
  • Confidence in reading and interpreting technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Familiarity with digital systems for recording inspections and maintenance activities.
  • Comfortable using a wide range of workshop tools and equipment, with a proactive, safety‑first approach.
  • Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, as well as maintaining small tools and heavy equipment, would be highly beneficial.
  • Manufacturer‑specific training or certifications, experience maintaining towable equipment, forklift or telehandler licence, mentoring junior technicians, lean or continuous improvement knowledge are advantageous.
  • Strong team player with good communication skills and a positive, can‑do attitude.
  • Full UK driving licence is essential.
