The Role – Programme Team Leader - STEM Foundation Year, Centre for Academic Persistence
We are currently looking for a Programme Team Leader to lead, develop and monitor the delivery of our brand-new STEM Foundation Year pathway for Blended Learning full-time students (based on campus) launching in May 2025.
- Responsibility for a programme or suite of associated named awards/programmes.
- May support with module leadership of several large, core modules.
- Overall responsibility for an allocated area/theme (e.g., student experience or transition) within the academic programme side of our Centre for Academic Persistence.
About You:
We are seeking a highly innovative individual with extensive experience of working with Foundation year STEM programmes (primarily Computing). You will be aware of the challenges that these learners experience and accordingly you will be adept at operationalising strategies and interventions to improve student progression, retention and outcomes. You will have experience of supporting and managing academic teams/module leaders and have an outstanding ability to engage with students and staff resulting in a positive teaching and learning environment. We are seeking someone who is friendly, approachable, adaptable, flexible, calm under pressure, driven and persistent. This is a fast-paced environment in an organisation that is growing rapidly so being able to manage ambiguity and change is essential.
Our STEM Foundation Year is majority Computing students, therefore we are looking for someone with proven experience with some of the following:
- Programming (Python, Java)
- Database
- Operating Systems/Networking
- Digital Business/Ethics
- IT Project Management
- Data Analysis/Big Data/AI
- Cloud Computing
- HCI/UX/Web Development
- Cyber Security
We are looking for a Programme Team Leader/Senior Lecturer to start as soon as possible as our programme launches in May 2025 with growth in student numbers expected in September. You will be managing a small team of 6 Lecturers who are also Module Leaders.
Essential Skills / Experience:
- You must have a Master’s Degree or equivalent professional qualification in subject relevant to the teaching area.
- You must have a recognised HE Teaching Qualification and/or Advance HE Fellowship at FHEA/SFHEA level or demonstrate commitment to gain this recognition within 12 months of appointment.
- Able to evidence CPD to show your commitment to enhancing your knowledge and teaching capability, including your practical teaching methods and techniques.
- Significant and successful track record of teaching, learning and assessment practice in a relevant discipline/subject at different HE levels.
- Line management or mentoring/coaching of others.
