Hybrid working arrangement: 3 days a week at one of our North campuses – Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle. You will be allocated a location aligned to your closest campus, but may need to travel to other campuses as required. Dates and days are flexible in line with business requirements.

About the Opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Academic Skills Tutor to support the Deputy Head of Library Services (Learning & Teaching) in the effective delivery of Arden University’s Academic Skills support service. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring that all students – across all levels and programmes – receive high‑quality academic skills guidance that enhances their learning, confidence, and success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support staff, including line‑management responsibilities and contributing to cross‑departmental projects that enhance the Academic Skills provision.
- Deliver engaging academic skills workshops and one‑to‑one support, helping students strengthen core skills such as academic writing, critical thinking, study techniques and digital literacy.
- Provide tailored academic skills support across a wide range of programmes and levels, ensuring all learners receive accessible and inclusive guidance.
- Monitor, analyse, and improve student engagement, using data to identify trends and implement strategies that encourage participation.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of academic skills programmes, supporting innovation, continuous improvement and an excellent student experience.
- Promote academic integrity, providing clear guidance to help students understand expectations and develop good academic practice.
- Contribute to the development of academic skills for students on the new UG International Programme that is running – UKi.
About You
We are looking for an experienced academic who is passionate about student success and skilled in delivering high‑quality academic skills support. You will bring strong digital literacy, a student‑centred approach and the ability to work confidently with diverse learners across multiple programmes. You will thrive in a dynamic, digital‑first environment and be committed to continuous improvement, professional development and sharing best practice to enhance the overall student experience.
What you will have
- Proven experience supporting students to develop strong academic skills, including writing, critical thinking, study strategies and academic integrity.
- Experience in line‑managing staff, including providing training, coaching and ongoing developmental support.
- Experience working with students across a range of programmes and levels, ideally in a blended or online learning environment.
- Excellent digital literacy skills, with the ability to use and promote digital tools that enhance learning.
- A supportive, empathetic and student‑focused approach, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
- A positive, flexible and proactive mindset, comfortable working in a fast‑paced and continuously evolving environment.
- Enthusiasm for blended and online learning, and a drive to empower students through accessible and inclusive academic support.
