About our School
Our School of Psychology has grown significantly over the last few years, and our journey continues. Our academic team brings together extensive experience from academia, professional practice, and industry. Our goal is to equip our students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, ensuring they are fully prepared for employment upon graduation.
About the Opportunity
The Employer Advisory Board brings together external professionals to help the School of Psychology align education with real‑world practice, sector need, and workforce demand. As a Board member with expertise in cyber security, digital risk, or security‑critical environments, you will bring practical, sector‑specific insight into how security, risk, and human behaviour intersect in real‑world settings.
You will help ensure that teaching, learning, and student development reflect how cyber and security practice operates in practice, including the behavioural, psychological, and organisational factors that underpin secure systems, safe decision‑making, and effective risk management.
This role spans a range of security‑critical sectors, including:
- Cyber security and information assurance
- Government, defence, and national security
- Policing, intelligence, and law enforcement
- Financial services, fintech, and critical infrastructure
- Technology, digital platforms, and data‑driven organisations
- Corporate security, risk, and resilience functions
This is a strategic advisory role, not a formal governance position. Your contribution will inform curriculum development and employability strategy, helping prepare graduates for cyber, security, and risk‑related roles, while supporting employers facing skills shortages, talent pipeline challenges, and upskilling or reskilling needs.
About You
As an Employer Advisory Board member, you bring current, real‑world experience from cyber, security, or risk‑critical environments, including insight into:
- How security and cyber risk operate in practice
- The human and behavioural factors that influence security outcomes
- Skills, behaviours, and mindsets required in security‑focused roles
- Common gaps between graduate capability and employer expectation
- How threats, technologies, and workforce requirements are evolving
You act as a translation layer between industry and academia - helping the School understand what effective, applied cyber and security practice looks like in the real world.
What’s in it for you?

Help shape the future of higher education and workforce development. Influence curriculum design to ensure it reflects current and future industry needs. Support the employability and social mobility of our diverse student body. Collaborate with academic leaders and fellow industry experts to drive innovation and impact. Gain experience of cross-sector collaboration to support social impact.
Our Values stand out, Progressive, Accessible, Resourceful, Kindness, reflect who we are as an institution, a team and as individuals. If they also reflect you and you are excited by the chance to be the driving, creative force within a growing business, we want to hear from you.
Closing Date: 10th February
