This role will require a presence of at least 3-4 days a week on our London Stratford campus, with 1 day working from home to suit the student timetable. You may be required to be on campus 5 days a week in some cases, based on teaching and meeting requirements.

The Foundation Degrees department teaches a number of programmes that are designed to provide a vocational and work‑based learning experience, tailored to meet the needs of widening participation (WP) and disadvantaged student groups. The Foundation Degrees aim to bridge the gap between education and employment, equipping students with practical skills and real‑world experience. The Department of Foundation Degrees is located in the Centre for Academic Persistence, a newly formed centre in 2024 which plays a pivotal role in guiding students through their first‑year journey. The Centre delivers a suite of strategic initiatives including Foundation Year programmes, CertHE support, ‘On Track’ progression and resit support, and university‑wide orientation events. Arden is passionate about helping students realise their potential, and this new offering reflects its commitment to inclusive education, student success, and social mobility.

About the Opportunity: We are currently looking for a Lecturer to join the newly established Department of Foundation Degrees in the Centre for Academic Persistence to support with the delivery of our Health & Care FdSc in each campus. Teaching may be a maximum of 16‑20 hours per week, academic support including office hours and tutorials and facilitating the cover rota in campus. You will also be supporting module development in the first 2 years of your role and there may be opportunities to be a Module Leader.

Responsibilities within our academic programmes include:

  • Deliver engaging and dynamic lectures both face‑to‑face for our blended students.
  • Take on module leadership, ensuring consistent quality and development of learning materials and schemes of work.
  • Oversee assessment marking, create authentic assessments, and provide high‑quality feedback.
  • Lead or support the creation of new programmes and refresh existing ones to align with industry trends and employer requirements.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide academic advice and support to students.
  • Drive innovation in teaching methods, student support, and assessment.
  • Assist with student orientation weeks (online) and face to face in campus.
  • Support students with their assessments including 1‑1s, group tutorials and scaffolded assessment feedback sessions.
  • Assist students through providing reminders and tracking those who are at risk of non‑submission via phone calls, online 1‑1 tutorials and face to face assessment tutorials.
  • Work closely to develop our assessment and resit clinics.
  • Develop/create interactive videos, podcasts and activities that could be shared on our VLE and in‑class activities.

About You: We are looking for individuals who understand challenges to student engagement in a university setting and have experience of teaching Health and academic skills in this subject‑area. You must be positive and empathetic to dealing with student issues, ensuring we further engage students with their studies and ensuring positive student outcomes. Our modules focus on the following Health and Care Management areas of which you should have experience of these:

  • Level 4 ‑ Collaborative Cultures in Health and Social Care, Entrepreneurship and Health Innovation, Sustainable Business Practice in Health and Care.
  • Level 5 ‑ Concepts of Compassionate Leadership, Evidence‑based practice in multidisciplinary working, Financial and Digital Health Development, and Applied Work‑Based Learning for Health and Social Care.

Essential Skills / Experience:

  • You must have a master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in subject relevant to the teaching area (in Health, Health Management, or Health and Social Care).
  • You must have a recognised HE Teaching Qualification and/or Advance HE Fellowship at FHEA/SFHEA level or demonstrate commitment to gain this recognition within 12 months of appointment.
  • Able to evidence CPD to show your commitment to enhancing your knowledge and teaching capability, including your practical teaching methods and techniques.
