We are currently looking for a Lecturer to join the newly established Department of Foundation Degrees in the Centre for Academic Persistence to support the delivery of our Computing Foundation Degree. Teaching may be a maximum of 16–20 hours per week, including academic support such as office hours, tutorials and facilitating the cover rota on campus. You will also support module development in the first two years and there may be opportunities to become a Module Leader.
Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging and dynamic lectures both face‑to‑face and online for blended and distance learning students.
- Take on module leadership, ensuring consistent quality and development of learning materials and schemes of work.
- Oversee assessment marking, create authentic assessments and provide high‑quality feedback.
- Lead or support the creation of new programmes and refresh existing ones to align with industry trends and employer requirements.
- Collaborate with colleagues to provide academic advice and support to students.
- Drive innovation in teaching methods, student support and assessment.
- Assist with student orientation weeks (online and on campus).
- Support students with assessments, including 1‑to‑1 tutorials, group tutorials and scaffolded assessment feedback sessions.
- Assist students through reminders and tracking those at risk of non‑submission via phone calls, online tutorials and face‑to‑face assessment tutorials.
- Work closely to develop assessment and resit clinics.
- Develop and create interactive videos, podcasts and activities that can be shared on our VLE and used in‑class.
Subject Areas
You should have experience in the following computing areas:
- Level 4 – Digital Skills for the Modern Workplace, Problem Solving and Programming, Web and Database Technologies.
- Level 5 – Business Intelligence, Digital Business Transformation, User‑Centred Design and Applied Work‑Based Learning for Computing and Design.
Qualifications & Experience
- Hold a master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification relevant to the teaching area.
- Hold a recognised HE Teaching Qualification and/or an Advance HE Fellowship at FHEA/SFHEA level, or demonstrate commitment to gain this recognition within 12 months of appointment.
- Evident CPD showing commitment to enhancing teaching capability, including practical teaching methods and techniques.
Working Hours & Location
The role requires a presence of at least 3–4 days a week on our Holborn or Stratford campus, with one day working from home to suit the student timetable. You may be required to be on campus five days a week in some cases, based on teaching and meeting requirements. This hybrid working model is a non‑contractual benefit that may change at any point during your employment.
