This role operates primarily on a remote working arrangement that will require only rare travel to our Coventry office and campuses. Our working model arrangements are a non-contractual benefit so please note that an Arden work location is added to our employment contracts.

About our Department:
The legal team touches every part of the University and we pride ourselves on thinking differently to give our internal client teams the best commercially astute legal advice. We are a fast paced business within a larger corporate group of entities and we balance delivering business as usual activities such as negotiating commercial supplier contracts with large scale projects such as property expansions and international projects. We use technology to maximise our potential and we work alongside business teams on the delivery of key initiatives.
As part of a larger corporate group we are involved from time to time with group wide initiatives and work cross jurisdictionally as part of the Universities international strategy. No day is ever the same and the work is varied.
The legal function also includes insurance, data protection and FCA compliance in addition to core legal activity such as commercial contracts, student complaints, property, consumer advertising, policy drafting, risk management and overall compliance.
About the Opportunity:
As the Data Protection Manager, you will report to the General Legal Counsel/Data Protection Officer and assist with the management of theData Protection function within the University and any subsidiaries. You willassist the Data Protection Officer with the setting ofthe data protection strategy for the business and its group subsidiaries and to discharge the University’s statutory obligations and ongoing compliance with the UK GDPR, PECR and other data protection legislation in foreign jurisdictions where Arden may either have a presence or have partnerships. The role will manage compliance with the data protectionframework on a rolling basis and includedrafting of all data protection contractual clauses/international data transfer agreements and advise the business on all data protection implications.
About You:
Essential requirements:
- Proficiency in and experience of data protection laws, including the specific requirements of the GDPR, PECR and equivalent legislation within the EU and other jurisdictions internationally.
- UK Qualified solicitor and/or UK recognised Data Protection qualification.
- Experience of leading projects and change management.
- Ability to lead, negotiate and influence at all levels of management across an organisation.
- Experience of dealing with complex DSAR\'s, DPIA\'s and erasure requests.
- Experience of leading a team to deliver a high quality service in a complex group of businesses and of maintaining accurate and coherent records.
- Experience of providing advice and guidance to senior management within a large corporate organisation.
- Experience of implementing a data protection strategy within a large international corporate organisation.
- Experience of developing data protection policies, processes and maintaining a compliant data protection function within a fast paced commercial business.
Desirable requirements:
- Proven track record of relevant extensive work experience as a manager of data protection in an International group of businesses with experience of dealing with different legal jurisdictions.
- Experience of managing a team of data protection specialists and dealing with senior stakeholders within an international business.
- Experience of managing the activities of others to ensure that deadlines are met and compliance maintained.
- An understanding of the legal and regulatory requirements within which an independent UK university operates.
