The Catering and Facilities Assistant plays a key role in ensuring that communal meals and facilities within the Good Morning West Belfast (GMWB) service are delivered safely, hygienically, and efficiently. The post holder will be responsible for the planning, ordering, preparation and serving of meals, maintaining kitchen and canteen hygiene standards, and overseeing health and safety requirements in collaboration with other staff. This role supports the wellbeing, social engagement, and inclusion of older adults attending Ardcomm facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and serve meals in line with planned menus, dietary requirements, and nutritional guidance.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen, canteen, and food storage areas, including regular cleaning and disinfection.
  • Monitor food stock, carry out fridge/freezer checks, rotate food items, and ensure proper storage to minimise waste.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is maintained, safe, and used correctly in accordance with health and safety procedures.
  • Assist with setting up and clearing communal dining areas, ensuring older adults feel welcome and supported during meals.
  • Collaborate with the wider team to ensure smooth operation of organisational events, workshops, and community activities requiring catering support.
  • Follow all relevant hygiene, health, and safety legislation and best practice guidelines, and report any concerns promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of food stock, cleaning schedules, and any incidents related to food or facilities.

Main Duties

  • Plan and prepare meals in line with dietary requirements, portion sizes, and service schedules.
  • Oversee kitchen and canteen hygiene, including cleaning work surfaces, utensils, floors, and equipment.
  • Conduct regular checks of refrigerators, freezers, and food stock, ensuring correct rotation and disposal of expired items.
  • Monitor and maintain health and safety standards in the kitchen, canteen, and communal areas, including safe use of equipment and fire safety compliance.
  • Work alongside the Coordinator of Older Adults Services and GMWB Community Support team to support social activities and ensure smooth mealtime operations.
  • Report any equipment faults, safety hazards, or incidents to the Coordinator of Older Adults Services.
  • Support general cleaning and upkeep of Ardcomm facilities used by older adults.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, including food hygiene, safeguarding, GDPR, and organisational health and safety standards.
