To ensure safe and efficient operation of furnaces, providing consistently high-quality glass for container production, whilst achieving good furnace thermal efficiencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and control furnaces; primarily B1 and B3, but also be fully familiar with B4 and B7 furnaces, and both EP’s. This should be done to maintain the integrity of the furnace structure and provide consistently high-quality glass at good thermal efficiencies.
  • Use analytical skills, be fully competent with process control systems, and trending facilities to problem solve issues that arise in furnace operation.
  • Have a good knowledge of furnace structure and common issues that can arise in continuous operation of a furnace lifecycle.
  • Have a working knowledge of refiner and forehearth operations, and the requirements of internal customers such as the feeder team and forming.
  • Assist Supervision in the daily operation and control of batch and furnace operations as required, following good practice requirements.
  • Operate departmental vehicles and load raw materials as needed, typically during night shifts and weekends.

Required skills / qualifications:

  • Ability to operate: Forklift Truck, Mechanical Shovel, Skid Steer Shovel, Cullet Lorry
  • Effective communication skills: Verbal, Written, Electronic
  • Understanding of furnace operation procedures
  • Knowledge of emergency and environmental procedures in the department
  • Develop a general understanding of batch and furnace operation routines
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in furnace areas per company hygiene rules and departmental procedures
  • Comply with health and safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment

What we offer

  • Salary based on Grade 5 of the harmonised pay scales. Range: £37,000 to £40,269.
  • Salary sacrifice pension scheme with up to 10% matched contributions
  • 12-hour day/night shifts — 21 shifts in a 5-crew 12-hour shift rota, with holidays built into the rota
