A Major Construction company are seeking to recruit an Assistant Design Manager to work on two new build commercial projects across the East London/Essex area.

The role will allow 2 days Hybrid with the rest including site visits or time in the central London office. You will focus on supporting the Senior Design Manager and project teams in the delivery of steel frame commercial schemes up to £20m. The role would focus on coordinating the design process between clients, architects, consultants, subcontractors, and project teams to ensure designs are fully developed, compliant, buildable, and delivered in line with programme requirements.

  • Assisting the Design Manager and Project Team in managing the design process from pre-construction through to project completion.
  • Coordinating architects, structural engineers and specialist subcontractors throughout the design development process.
  • Managing and maintaining design programmes to ensure information is issued in line with construction requirements.
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications, and technical submissions to identify discrepancies, clashes, and buildability issues.
  • Supporting the management of Requests for Information (RFIs), technical queries, and consultant responses.
  • Monitoring design deliverables and tracking consultant performance against project deadlines.
  • Attending design team meetings and producing meeting minutes, design trackers, and action schedules.
  • Assisting with design risk management and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, planning conditions, and building regulations.
  • Coordinating design approvals, material submissions, and sample reviews.
  • Working closely with site teams to resolve design-related issues during construction.
  • Supporting value engineering exercises to improve project efficiency while maintaining quality and client requirements.
  • Managing project document control systems and ensuring all design information is accurately distributed.
  • Assisting with BIM coordination and design coordination workshops where required.
  • Supporting the preparation of handover documentation, as-built information, and operation and maintenance manuals.

Requirements

  • Degree in relevant field e.g Architectural, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Engineering.
  • The role would suit an individual who has a minimum of 2 years experience in a specialist structural engineering consultancy, site engineering/management role or design position.
  • The role requires an individual with genuine drive, enthusiasm and passion for their work.
