A leading passive fire protection contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its growing commercial team on a freelance basis for 1 year based from their office in East London. The business delivers firestopping, compartmentation, fire door, and wider passive fire protection packages across residential, commercial, healthcare, education, and public sector projects. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor to oversee multiple projects.

The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the commercial management of several passive fire protection projects, working closely with operational teams, clients, and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered profitably and in line with contractual requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the commercial aspects of multiple passive fire protection projects.
  • Preparing and submitting valuations and applications for payment.
  • Identifying, pricing, and negotiating variations.
  • Producing cost reports, forecasts, and CVRs.
  • Managing subcontractor procurement and accounts.
  • Negotiating and agreeing final accounts.
  • Reviewing contract terms and managing commercial risk.
  • Supporting project delivery teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, Managing Quantity Surveyor within the construction sector - must have good knowledge of passive fire.
  • Experience managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong understanding of cost management, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
  • Knowledge of JCT and/or NEC forms of contract.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.

Highly Desirable

  • Previous experience within passive fire protection, firestopping, fire doors, drylining, fit-out, or specialist subcontracting.
  • Experience working for a subcontractor environment.
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
