A well-established and highly respected independent business within the building materials and distribution sector is looking to recruit an experienced Financial Controller to join their senior management team. With multiple branches across South London and a turnover exceeding £12 million, this is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional who enjoys working within a fast-paced SME environment where they can genuinely make an impact.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the finance function, ensuring strong financial controls, delivering accurate reporting, supporting strategic decision-making, and helping drive continuous improvement across the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly management accounts with detailed analysis
  • Managing statutory accounts and annual audit processes
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and financial legislation
  • Managing VAT returns, tax submissions, and HMRC compliance
  • Overseeing balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
  • Cashflow management, forecasting, and liquidity planning
  • Supporting and developing finance team members
  • Working closely with senior management to provide commercial financial insight
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements across the finance function
Requirements:
  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified or part-qualified
  • Ideally 5–10 years’ finance experience
  • Strong financial controls and reporting background
  • Excellent Excel and reporting system skills
  • Experience with forecasting and planning
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Experience within distribution, wholesale, merchants, or similar sectors would be advantageous
Package:
  • Salary circa £60,000 – £65,000
