Overview
We are currently seeking a friendly and organised individual to join our team as an experienced Medical Secretary. In this role, you will be responsible for undertaking a wide range of secretarial and administrative duties and the provision of administrative support to the multidisciplinary team.
Duties
- Processing of information (electronic and hard copy) in a timely manner
- Liaising with multidisciplinary team members and external agencies such as secondary care and community service providers in accordance with current policies
- Supporting the administration and receptionist teams with patient registration, booking appointments
- Answer incoming telephone calls promptly and courteously, directing inquiries to the appropriate staff members or departments
- Respond to patient queries and provide information about services, opening hours, and other relevant information
- Typing letters, reports and associated documentation as required
- Processing referrals using the electronic referral system (ERS)
- Scanning patient related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patient’s healthcare records
- Processing requests for information i.e., SAR, insurance/solicitor’s letters and DVLA forms
- Assist with general administrative tasks
- Adhere to practice policies and procedures, including those related to patient confidentiality and data protection
Essential criteria
- Proven experience as a medical secretary is essential for this role
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to put the needs of patients first
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to multitask and prioritise tasks efficiently
- Knowledge of medical terminology to accurately type out medical reports and other documents
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
Desirable criteria
- GCSEs in English and Maths
- Previous experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Strong IT skills (EMIS and Office)
