The Architects Registration Board (ARB) is the UK regulator for architects. Our role is set out by Parliament in legislation, and we work to keep the public safe by maintaining a Register of Architects. To be entered and retained on the Register an individual must have qualifications that prove their knowledge and skills and commit to uphold the Architects Code and to maintain and develop their knowledge and skills throughout their career. We want a world in which the built environment inspires those who live and work in it, reflects the needs of society so that people are safe and can live well, and helps to tackle the fundamental challenges our planet faces.

The Team: The Professional Standards team is responsible for upholding the standards expected of architects in the UK. The team manages complaints about architects and oversees investigations and disciplinary processes where concerns are raised about professional conduct or competence. Their work helps maintain public confidence in the profession and ensures that architects meet the standards required by the Architects Code.

The Role: The Investigations Officer plays a key role investigating complaints about architects and producing high-quality written case assessments and recommendations for the Case Examiners. Working proactively and independently, the postholder will manage a caseload of varying complexity, gather and analyse evidence, and apply ARB’s statutory framework to advise on appropriate regulatory outcomes. The role requires strong analytical judgement, clear written communication, and effective case management to ensure fair, proportionate, and timely resolution of complaints.
